To upgrade is human

True changes will come from mastering biology. When talking about controlling genetics, we are talking about changing the very foundations of our lives. This change will happen sooner than we think and Doctor Gregory stock has understood this. We could even say it has already started. The silicon revolution is the perfect example for this. The magnificent complexity we can now reach, making artificial limbers or organs truly shows that we are on the merge of a dramatic change in medicine and biology.

But as Doctor Stock implies: Are we truly ready for this ?

We are now able to literally read our DNA code. Can we bear such knowledge? But yet again, this will happen. And for two reasons: everyone wants to see it happen, and, it is in the human nature.

What Doctor Stock hopes is that we actually see this change as an o

pportunity, an opportunity to upgrade ourselves as humans. The true, and only choice we will have to make is how we look at it.

This is an interesting discussion on the ethics of science progress. We are living in a world that is continually changing. And the question that we keep asking remains: Is it ok to do this? We have reached a point where scientific progress’ stakes go much further than a few decades ago. This is not only about genetics or biology. Along with these, AI development, big data science, algorithmic decision making, and many others, are examples proving that science now has an unmovable and undeniable place in our lifestyle.

It is in human nature to always try and go beyond current knowledge. Doctor Stock raises the question: are we ready to take it a step further? And should we do it?
